Poem The Queen of Pandora by Lorna Cameron

The Queen of Pandora

The Queen of Pandora

Knew from birth

The road she would travel

And what she was worth.

The forest she travelled
Whilst on her way
Was frightful with shadows

Ghosts of yesterday.

Goblins and gremlins.

Dragons and bears.

Quicksand and marshes.

Monsters in pairs!

Bows with their arrows.

Ripping her clothes.

Spears in their dozens.

Tigers in rows!

The prince came to save her

As the spear hit her heart
He bathed her and soothed her
He gave her, his heart.

For that she was grateful
And for all that he is
Her quest had been fateful

But she still had her wish.

For sure he was close

Much closer than most.

But something was missing

She wasn’t quite glistening.

Her wish was within her

Though the form was not clear.

She imagined it happening
sometime this year.

Her head filled with writing

Her heart filled with song

Soulful melody’s inviting

Fulfilments not long.
