From Albert Einstein

This I Believe: part one

An Ideal of Service to Our Fellow Man

The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious—the knowledge of the existence of something unfathomable to us, the manifestation of the most profound reason coupled with the most brilliant beauty. I cannot imagine a god who rewards and punishes the objects of his creation, or who has a will of the kind we experience in ourselves. I am satisfied with the mystery of life’s eternity and with the awareness of—and glimpse into—the marvelous construction of the existing world together with the steadfast determination to comprehend a portion, be it ever so tiny, of the reason that manifests itself in nature. This is the basis of cosmic religiosity, and it appears to me that the most important function of art and science is to awaken this feeling among the receptive and keep it alive.

I sense that it is not the State that has intrinsic value in the machinery of humankind, but rather the creative, feeling individual, the personality alone that creates the noble and sublime.

Man’s ethical behavior should be effectively grounded on compassion, nurture, and social bonds. What is moral is not of the divine, but rather a purely human matter, albeit the most important of all human matters. In the course of history, the ideals pertaining to human beings’ behavior toward each other and pertaining to the preferred organization of their communities have been espoused and taught by enlightened individuals. These ideals and convictions—results of historical experience, empathy, and the need for beauty and harmony—have usually been willingly recognized by human beings, at least in theory.

The highest principles for our aspirations and judgments are given to us westerners in the Jewish-Christian religious tradition. It is a very high goal: free and responsible development of the individual, so that he may place his powers freely and gladly in the service of all mankind.

The pursuit of recognition for its own sake, an almost fanatical love of justice, and the quest for personal independence form the traditional themes of the Jewish people, of which I am a member.

But if one holds these high principles clearly before one’s eyes and compares them with the life and spirit of our times, then it is glaringly apparent that mankind finds itself at present in grave danger. I see the nature of the current crises in the juxtaposition of the individual to society. The individual feels more than ever dependent on society, but he feels this dependence not in the positive sense, cradled, connected as part of an organic whole; he sees it as a threat to his natural rights and even his economic existence. His position in society, then, is such that that which drives his ego is encouraged and developed, and that which would drive him toward other men—a weak impulse to begin with—is left to atrophy.

It is my belief that there is only one way to eliminate these evils, namely, the establishment of a planned economy coupled with an education geared toward social goals. Alongside the development of individual abilities, the education of the individual aspires to revive an ideal that is geared toward the service of our fellow man, and that needs to take the place of the glorification of power and outer success.

Three Kings

This song has been swimming around in my head all day so I thought I would share it.....The very first performance I had when I got chosen as one of the wise men in the school play in primary Five....Thankyou 'Iris Soutar' a very special teacher.

We three kings of orient are
Sharing gifts we travel afar
Field and fountain
Moor and mountain
Following yonder star!

OH star of wonder
Star of light
Star of royal beauty...BRIGHT
Westward leading
Still proceeding
Guide us to that perfect LIGHT!

Poem My place by Lorna Cameron

MY PLACE

Lily, rose and jasmine

The gentle grace of the rose
Feminine, sweetly aromatic
Blushing delicately
Blooming in abundance.

For the lily
Elegantly,
makes her proud presence known
Bursting and blooming
With immense power
from the earth
Like a dignified queen of her own homeland
Intoxicating and alluring
As her musky scent excites the senses.

Jasmine, mystifyingly sweet
On a first encounter
But undeniably, distinctly Erotic in nature,
with Delicate undertones
Of oriental spice
Inhale……

Friends

The gentle grace of the rose
Feminine
Fragile
sweetly aromatic

Blushing delicately
Blooming in abundance
Inhale...

For the lily
Elegantly
makes her proud presence known
Bursting and blooming
With immense power
from moist earth
A dignified queen of her own homeland
Intoxicating and alluring
As her musky scent excites the senses
Inhale....

Jasmine
mystifyingly sweet

On a first encounter
But undeniably
distinctly erotic in nature

with delicate undertones
Of oriental spice

Winning poem... Knowing Love

Recently at the writing group I run we had a competition.....

"The great mystery of love is a popular subject and most poets have written something about the trials, tribulations, highs, lows and beauty of love.... therefore there is a prize for the most original poem this month"...... I asked another writer who was not part of the group to judge the poems and the rest of the group were eager that I enter too... I did not enter the competition as I knew I couldn't write a love poem...

Here is one of the most beautiful poems I have ever had the privilege to read ..... the winning poem.... from a very brave angel I know....called Pixi.

"Some Day after we have mastered the winds, the waves, the tides, and Gravity....We shall harness the energies of love. Then, for the second time in the history of the world man will have discovered fire" by Teilhard De Chardin.

Knowing Love

Give me a burn to
Wade through...to you
A burn to
Dive into...with you
Give me a burning love
Is it scary?
Naked for the heart and mind?
.....then it is love
Burning love, for you.

Give me a sky to
Look up to...for you
A sky to
Fly into....with you
Give me sky
Is it raging?
Heavenly of body
and soul?
.....Then, it is love
Heavenly love, for you.

Give me earth
To walk on...beside you
Earth to
Grow from...under you
Give me
Growing earth
Is it moist?
Nurturing for
bones and flesh?
Then it is love
Real love, knowing you.

Every time I read this poem I cry, need I say more.....

Poem Fulfilment by Lorna cameron

Fulfilment

To rise at dawn and sing with the lark

To explore and roam whilst leaving your mark

To bathe in the sea and relax in the sun

To swing from the trees whilst beaming with fun

To work and to play while you smile with your day

To get smothered in clay and live how you say!

To feel comfort in his arms

See Love in his eyes

To know he’s disarmed not hiding in disguise

To see the sun every day and not see any more horror

Would be a luxury… I would say

Not something I would borrow

To see his eyes burn with desire

And be free enough to surrender

The furnace that holds the heart of the fire...

…not a cinder will be ember!

PoemThe culprit by Lorna Cameron

The culprit

On the Titanic

When it was sinking

He got into a panic

Crushing women and children

To protect himself

As he put it!

To get to the lifeboat

Cowardice the culprit

They all got saved

As she tried to forgive

That horrible culprit

And his right to live!

by Lorna Cameron

Poem Last goodbye

Last Goodbye

You see my worst nightmare

Has now occurred.

What was I thinking?

It sounds so absurd!

Protecting them all

from the monster within him!

Standing so tall

Watching it lynch him!

He doubts my indifference

So much it breaks him.

“Get your own life!”

Parting words as I leave him.

He knows he’s defeated

And has somewhat calmed down.

He now has retreated.

I still have my crown.

Now with a new one

She seems very nice

He’ll now see his own sun.

I sip champagne on ice!

Tribute

My Dear friend Cath

Just like a mother
Cath is always there
Whether or not I’m in bother
She lends a listening ear

Unselfish to the core
At no time would she ignore
The workings of the heart
Cath’s refined it to an art

So proud to have you near
Blessings, Cath my dear
Good folks are hard to find
You’re truly a treasured friend

Diamond studded cheeks!
Laughter on the phone
Giggles lasting weeks
Your humour never drones

So spread your wings and GO
See the world, in all its glory
Find Doctor Chivago
And create a love story!

By Lorna Cameron

I'll love you always 'Cathrine the great'.....you will be back next time to conquer...of that i'm sure....Hoping it is peaceful for you my friend.

For Cathrine Macloed one of the bravest I know.

Poem Honest and True by Lorna Cameron

Honest and true

To die and not know
To live and not grow
The fears that we face
To get to that place

The core of existence
Transcend the resistance
Look to the light
Take rest with the night

Eyes talk with sparkle
As spirits intact
Listening to the wise ones
Whilst considering the facts

Thoughts are more peaceful
Sleep is so restful
Soul is much calmer
And body is warmer

Could all go tomorrow
Consider that too
Your heart you should follow
Be honest and true!

Poem Living in the moment by Lorna Cameron

Living in the moment

What made you feel satisfied this day?

What did you see?

Hear?

Touch?

Taste?

Smell?

How do you feel?

Who did you love?

Poem Comfortable by Lorna Cameron

Comfortable

Comfortable as cotton
Satin, silk or lace
Living a full life
At your own merry pace

What is the problem?
Find the solution
Fly with the dove
Rest on the cushion

Living for now
In a world that’s so mean
Dealing with skeletons
‘Till closets are clean

Watching what happens
Listening so keen
Wondering so deeply
Where on earth I’d been!

Open your eyes
Say what you feel
Brand new perspective
Your truth is what’s real!

poem Is Anyone there? by Lorna Cameron

Is anyone there?

At first I was afraid …..I was petrified

What’s wrong?

You cannot see me?

I am the same of course

as I always was

am I not?

You’re just not looking, are you?

You only see the wheels

The chair…. perhaps.

I can’t talk, but can listen

although ramblings confuse.

I hear your mind, within your blindness

To comprehend it…I’d have to be you!

The last thing on my mind!

We could always talk to her

I suppose, I hear your thoughts!

By why would we want to?

What can she do for us now, I hear!

Let's just talk amongst ourselves

It’ll be easier, she needs to rest

Behind closed doors

A different story

They know best

Why would they ask?

I hear your mind….. within your blindness

To comprehend it…I’d have to be you!

The last thing on my mind!

Enquiring are you?

Can I unravel ….the grey windmills of the mind?

To make it easier on you

Should I make a joke.... there that’ll help!

Try pushing the chair with wheels

Imagine yourself as the carted one!

That I once found the sun when I was unbroken

Before the unpleasantness

Of your emotional hell!

I hear your mind….. within your blindness

To comprehend it…I’d have to be you!

The last thing on my mind!

Transgress.....

...Now it’s my emotional limbo

You are too much baggage for my destiny

Emotional heaven!

Why, she’s not in!

Convenient!

the lame excuses you all make

when you kick me out

Rest easy with your dull

Passionless mirrors

Uncompassionate to the core.

I hear your mind….. within your blindness

To comprehend it…I’d have to be you!

The last thing on my mind!

At one time I believe them...

...to be different

As I have witnessed.

Before the sly look of the fox

Why I can smell the guilt...

....mass of sheer selfishness,

Hardened hearts!

I hear your mind….. within your blindness

To comprehend it…I’d have to be you!

The last thing on my mind

Not so far from the one who bore me

What’s her name again?

Doesn’t matter

She didn’t fit the job description

Generations blinded

Unworthy criteria.

Go on pass the buck, its all my fault!

Stare into the mirror, convince yourself

Seek behind those eyes you despise...

.....YOUR MIRROR

Why should you feel empathy?

Ah, I see no-one taught you

Could they of?

Should they of?

I hear your mind….. within your blindness

To comprehend it… you’d have to be me!

The first thing in my heart!

Try pushing the chair with wheels

It doesn’t hurt!

Only some folks cross to the other side

The street is darker there

They cannot see the sun that shines...

....from the chair with wheels

I can stand the pain, don’t worry!

The physical, metaphysical

The mind more so, also don’t forget the senses

Surprisingly, heightened….. another dimention.

I hear your mind….. within your blindness

To comprehend it…You'd have to be me!

The First thing in my heart!

Well, there you are, an opening for you

Yes I have a heart and soul,

A task, maybe not, go on try it.

How familiar for you to look outward.....

.....inward, don't you know?

How predictable to want me imprisoned.

We’re not ashamed of the chair, just you.

I only want to get better, be outdoors.

By the way

now that I can speak

I want a divorce!

By Lorna Cameron.

To my sons

To My Sons

I will protect you
And then…
I will teach you how to protect yourselves!

I will provide for you
Then I will…
Teach you how to provide for yourselves!

I will keep you warm and safe
Then you will shy away from coldness!

I will love you
So that you love yourselves
And Others!

I will teach you how to survive in this world
But I can’t teach you everything
Likeminded people will help you
Follow your heart
Use your instincts!

I will not make your choices for you
But will guide you
As individuals, if need-be

I will help you see the difference
Between Cowardice and courage!
You will know when to look it in the eye
When to walk through it!
And when to walk away
You will trust your instincts
As to when!

I will guide you when you need me to
And will let you develop naturally
I will give you everything you need
But never everything you want!
You will need to source that yourself.

Be true to yourself
And you will be true to others
Know that I will love you no matter what
Have FAITH, HOPE and the WILL…
..To follow your destiny
And always do your best
As unique individuals.
Make sure you love what your best at…
...and the world will be your oyster!
